Find the English class that is right for you
Manitoba residents can take free English classes if they are a: permanent resident or Canadian citizen born outside Canada; a refugee claimant, or a provincial nominee (including spouses and adult children) who have received their letter of approval from the province.
Start with language assessment
Before you start taking English classes you need to do a placement test that measures your English skills so you can choose the English class that is right for you.
If you are new to Manitoba: Go to the ENTRY Program. During this orientation program for new immigrants, arrangements will be made for you to meet an assessor at the Winnipeg English Language Assessment and Referral Centre.
If you are not new to Manitoba: If you are not new to Manitoba you can arrange to get a placement test by contacting the Winnipeg English Language Assessment and Referral Centre (WELARC).
